Why am I taking this Class
I am taking OCEA-101 mostly due to a small hobby of mine that started back AP Environmental Science class, world building, basically it was a test to see if you could design a realistic planet. APES was a very fun class and covered nearly everything that goes into a living planet, from how its single celled organisms function all the way up to the planet's movement through space and how it affects other planetoids and vice versa. The world building test involved students taking everything they had learned and building a second Earth. It needed to have a basic break down of life on the planet including multiple domains and kingdoms of organisms, it needed mountain ranges with appropriate tectonic plates with their movements mapped out, it needed to have a functioning weather system with proper rain shadows as well as areas mapped out where major weather events would frequent and of course, it needed to have a functioning ocean as well, with currents, appropriately placed island chains and even needed a basic map for the movement of sea life if you decided to add anything that would migrate around the oceans. The project was a lot of fun and since then I have spent a decent amount of time messing around designing different worlds as a hobby, but I keep finding new challenges whilst designing these worlds, many of them related to the ocean and its systems which is why I am taking this course.
